BEAUTIFUL VELVET HEART BAG.

I made this pink velvet handbag yesterday...I bought the fabric because of the colour....bright pink but not the 'in your face pink'...I sewed on multi directional hearts...mostly shades of turquoise...satin and lurex...for shine and a touch of glitter..
There is a knack to sewing velvet...it can 'walk' slip and slide and gather its self....I learnt how to handle it properly from working for several ears as an up holster's machinist...Most f the sewing was piped box cushions for sofas....the pile and pattern had to run the right direction from top to the underneath including the piping. The work had to be 'perfect'.....otherwise I was told to unpick it!!! Most of our work was for top designers....for Lady Aster in Buckingham shire, and The Sloane Club in London....The only good thing about this job was that I got to keep some exquisite off-cuts of silk velvet ..double woven silk..tapestry etc worth at times well over £100 a meter....I still have a few precious bits....

This is the inside of the bag.The lining is perfect match...it has touches of gold that you cant see!

I put a large pocket inside..it has a zip...and I finished the top with the turquoise satin.

i love this, i really like the fact that the hearts are upside down! it would be really nice in a rich turquoise colour. x x
